Middle East College is proud to have moved to online mode within 2 days after the suspension of classes were announced. This was only possible due to MEC’s proactiveness to serve our students and due to our technical capabilities. We are successfully offering most modules online employing Microsoft Teams, as per the original timetable to ensure a clash-free schedule for students.
The Supreme Committee constituted by His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq, while deciding to maintain the suspension of study in all educational institutions, highlighted the significance of efforts to activate and continue online education in the country. We are also in receipt of Ministerial decree No. (25/ 2020) from the Ministry of Higher Education that directs us to continue the educational process for the Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters using online remote teaching and learning mechanisms so as to ensure that student learning and advancement are not adversely affected.
With the extension of the suspension of on-campus classes for an indefinite period, we have taken immediate and deliberate actions so that your PROGRESSION, GRADUATION and EMPLOYABILITY are not adversely affected.
ASSESSMENT APPROACH FOR SPRING 2020 AND SUMMER 2020
The unique blend of various types of assessments normally require you to visit industries, conduct surveys, collect information, work in groups, etc., none of which seem possible, considering the restrictions imposed by the pandemic. We also recognise that the current challenging circumstances might affect your preparation for and performance in assessments. We have hence decided on an alternate approach so that you can focus on on-line learning and ensure that the current changes do not present you with additional challenges in life in the long run. This amended approach to assessments shall be applicable exclusively for Spring 2020 and Summer 2020 semesters.
We believe that conducting modified assessments now is better for our students in the long term than deferring assessments to a later date or cancelling them altogether. Giving you the best possible chance to make progress now is better than delaying the assessment burden and worries to a later unspecified date, especially since a safety net of approaches allow us to accommodate worse than expected performance and to alter degree classification calculations.
